Awards and Recognition
Throughout my educational career, I have strived to uphold the highest standards and fulfill my goals to the best of my ability. In doing so, I have received a variety of awards from Okaloosa Applied Technology Center and Choctawhatchee Senior High School during my senior year.
Florida State University (2006-2008)
During my college career, I have continued to strive for excellence, as I did in high school. Because of this, I have become involved with on campus activities, including professional organizations, Seminole Student Boosters, and the academic undergraduate committee at the College of Information
College of Information Dean’s List
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must demonstrate a 3.5 GPA for the semester. This GPA is based on all classes taken at Florida State for the semester.
Membership in Professional and Academic Organizations
Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP)
Joining AITP in the Fall of 2007, I was elected to the position of Vice President. As part of this organization, my goal was to promote the development of AITP on campus. AITP was a relatively new venture. Cedric Nabe (President), along with myself, helped to establish AITP was a registered student organization on campus. We have hosted social events, entrepreneur’s nights, tours of technical facilities, and networking events. I am currently still serving as the Vice President of AITP at Florida State and will remain in the position until graduation.
Undergraduate Committee
As part of the undergraduate committee for the College of Information, my task was to evaluate the criteria and structure of the coursework in the college. The faculty and staff at the College of Information, along with myself, are responsible for reviewing the current course structure and making suggestions to improve how the courses are offered.
Seminole Student Boosters (FSU Student Boosters)
I became a member of the Seminole Student Boosters in the summer of 2007 and continue as an active member today. As a member of the Seminole Student Boosters, I have participated in events that are sponsored by the organization. These include the Champions Forum, where Florida State alumni come back to the university to reflect on their time as a student and the success that they have achieved in the professional world. This organization is also responsible for funding scholarships to deserving students as well.
HIMSS Conference Student Volunteer (HIMSS)
As a student volunteer at the HIMSS 2008 conference in Orlando, I was responsible for distributing information to attendees. These attendees included professors, students, CIOs, CEOs, and other prominent business partners. As a student volunteer, I was able to meet with these business partners to discuss the latest technology in the healthcare industry. By attending this conference, it gave me a great opportunity to apply my knowledge in the classroom to the developments that are taking place in the business environment.
Hobbies and Personal Interests
Computer Repair
I have always been interested in repairing computers and making modifications to keep up with the pace in technology. I have built a personal computer for a coworker, as well as for myself. In addition, I have begun to build a server for myself that will be used for printer sharing, website hosting, file distribution, and as an e-mail host.
Website Building
In my free time, I enjoy building websites. Currently, I am working on one for my own domain, waltbower.com, and one to promote a greyhound racing business for a client. I am familiar in developing websites using XHTML, CSS, and some PHP. I am currently learning how to use PHP to a greater extent because I believe it will be more useful in developing websites.
Photo Gallery
I have developed a photo gallery using Picasa. In this photo album, I have organized pictures by genre, events, and by geographic location. I enjoy taking photos and strive for professionalism when doing so.
